Jake accompanies the four remaining bachelorettes to their hometowns to meet their families. He finds one to be very protective, must work to win over another gal's mom, has serious questions for the third's family and is grilled by the fourth's. Back in L.A., one of the women visits him in his hotel room to tell him something surprising. Then comes the rose ceremony, at which Jake pares the field to three.
Jake and the five remaining bachelorettes are in San Francisco for visits to Chinatown, the Coit Tower, Golden Gate Park and the California Academy of Sciences (for dinner). There's also an excursion (for Jake and two ladies) to a Napa Valley castle. No roses are bestowed on any of the dates, but four are at the ceremony. The four recipients will take Jake home to meet their families.
Jake and the nine remaining bachelorettes take an RV jaunt up the California coast that includes a date for three in Big Sur and a date for two at a Santa Ynez winery. Jake takes the other six to Pismo Beach for dune-buggy riding. Roses are at stake in all three dates, and only five candidates remain by the trip's conclusion.
Twelve bachelorettes remain. Two of them get one-on-one dates (to San Diego's Sea World and bungee jumping in the San Gabriel Mountains, respectively), and eight others accompany Jake to the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club in Hollywood, where they're on the bill. Following the club outing, one contestant finds nothing funny about a rooftop party in downtown L.A., and another contestant displeases Jake and is dispatched prior to the rose ceremony. Following it, the field stands at nine.
The 15 bachelorettes move into the mansion. Six take part in a magazine photo shoot, five accompany Jake to an amusement park and one flies to Palm Springs (with Jake at the controls) for a private Chicago concert, a lakeside dinner and, perhaps, a rose. But in a new twist, a rose doesn't guarantee safety. After the rose ceremony---and after a line is crossed that shouldn't have been---12 women return to the mansion.
Season 14 premiere: Pilot Jake Pavelka, a 2009 "Bachelorette" veteran, begins his look for love from the other side of the rose ceremony as he meets the 25 contestants. Helping Jake size them up: Bachelorette Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski, the man she chose instead of Jake. Among the 25 are an Air National Guard captain, a flight attendant and one woman who's afraid of flying. Cocktail-party highlights include touch football, and that's before the competition gets rough. Jake eliminates 10.
